On October 8, 2026, the Contracting Board of the Alicante City Council pre-awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of 192 homes in the Virgen del Remedio neighborhood to Gestaser Obras y Servicios S.L. This initiative is part of the Residential Rehabilitation Program (ERRP), co-financed by the European Union's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the Next Generation EU funds.
The project involves the execution of rehabilitation works across 16 entrances grouped into six blocks, with a total of 192 homes. The contract encompasses lots 1, 3, and 4 of a broader rehabilitation project that originally included four lots and 264 homes, of which only lot 2 was awarded to Abala Infraestructuras, pending contract formalization. The remaining lots were left vacant and have now been pre-awarded for a total of €4,961,224.
Specifically, lot 1 is pre-awarded to Gestaser for €1,579,561, lot 3 for €1,791,612, and lot 4 for €1,590,051. The planned rehabilitation measures include enhancements to energy efficiency, as mandated by the aid program, as well as conservation and maintenance interventions, improvements to health and safety for residents, updates to deficient facilities to ensure proper functioning, and enhancements to accessibility, particularly in buildings located at Ávila 3 and Presbítero Gisbert nº 2, where elevators will be installed. Additionally, there will be efforts to renew and enhance the urban image.
Lot 1 includes buildings located at Ávila 1 and 3, Pintor Gastón Castelló 27, and Sierra de Bernia 2 and 4. Lot 3 comprises properties at Canónigo Giner 2, Pintor Gastón Castelló 21, Presbítero Gisbert 2, Aragón 3, Sierra Aitana 2, and Villa de Chiva 6. Lot 4 covers buildings at Pino Santo 2 and 4, Villa de Chiva 2, Gastón Castelló 15, and S. Cabeço d’Or 4.
Reurbanization of the Area
This rehabilitation initiative is part of ongoing reurbanization works in the area bounded by the avenues Pintor Gastón Castelló, Pino Santo, and the streets Villa de Chiva and Ávila in Virgen del Remedio. These works, awarded to Pavasal for €3,623,950, are also co-financed by the same European funds. They include the reurbanization of the area and the renovation and conditioning of a new square located between Villa de Chiva and Granada streets.
Among the planned actions are the creation of two superblocks prioritizing pedestrian access, reconfiguration of access streets to the homes being rehabilitated as multi-use spaces, reorganization of parking, widening of sidewalks, installation of urban furniture, and the addition of new LED streetlights.
