Alicante awards Sportmadness Eventos contract for 1,500 hours of sports for vulnerable youth

The City Council of Alicante has awarded a contract to Sportmadness Eventos S.L. to provide sports activities for minors from vulnerable backgrounds. The initiative, managed by the Social Welfare Department, will offer a total of 1,558 hours of activities annually, with a budget of €90,076 over two years, which can be extended for an additional two years.

Begoña León, the Councilor for Social Welfare, stated that this program has a "very positive impact on children and young people from vulnerable environments and their families." She noted that it addresses the lack of sports practice among children and youth in these areas while promoting educational and healthy leisure activities. The goal is to prevent risk situations, integrate minors into a healthy environment, encourage responsible behaviors, and foster education in values through commitment and participation in various sports disciplines.

Program Details

The service includes a variety of leisure, free time, and sports activities, such as multi-sport sessions, weekly training, and participation in municipal or provincial school leagues and championships. The sports offered include futsal, 8-a-side football, basketball, handball, and volleyball.

This initiative targets minors aged 6 to 17 from vulnerable areas in Alicante who face social exclusion risks and are part of social programs managed by the Social Welfare Department. A total of 150 participants will be divided into six groups, each with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 participants, organized by age and discipline.

Activities will take place twice a week from Tuesday to Friday, with each session lasting two hours. Additionally, the program includes assistance and participation in municipal or provincial school competitions or leagues held on Saturdays.

In July, the service will also provide sports training to prepare participants for potential neighborhood championships or leagues organized in the city, such as the Juan XXIII 2nd Sector Inter-neighborhood Tournament. This event has a long-standing tradition of nearly 30 years in Alicante and is celebrated annually in July at the sports facilities of the Juan XXIII neighborhood. It has gained significance and participation, becoming a hallmark event for local sports entities in the northern area of the city.

Improvements included in the new contract feature 80 hours of weekly physiotherapy and 120 hours of basic healthcare and first aid support.
