José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the mayor of Madrid, has received the Cross of Dignity from the Asociación de Víctimas del Terrorismo (AVT) as a tribute to his commitment to the victims of terrorism and his advocacy for truth, memory, dignity, and justice.
The award ceremony took place in the Antiguo Salón de Sesiones del Senado, a historic venue in Madrid, under the theme 'Dignity and memory against terrorism: a state commitment'. The event was organised by the AVT to honour victims and to recognise individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment.
This year, the XIV Truth, Memory, Dignity and Justice Award from the AVT was presented to the Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) of the Guardia Civil, Spain's civil guard. Alongside Almeida, other recipients of the Cross of Dignity included María Guardiola, the president of the Junta de Extremadura; María Paz Fernández, the mayor of Ronda; and Francisco Javier Sánchez, the dean of the Official College of Psychology of Las Palmas, among other distinguished figures.
