Association of senior citizens in Igualada celebrates fifth edition of Playbackcat

The Association of Senior Citizens in Igualada is preparing to celebrate the fifth edition of Playbackcat, themed "5 years sharing passion." This special edition marks five years of joy, music, and community engagement.

With great enthusiasm, the Association acknowledges the efforts made throughout the years and the involvement of all groups, participants, collaborators, and the audience that have helped the festival grow. The slogan for this year encapsulates the spirit of Playbackcat since its inception: a passion for music, performing on stage, sharing experiences, and continuing to enjoy life.

The grand final will take place on Wednesday, 21 October, at 5 PM in the Teatre Municipal l’Ateneu in Igualada. The organisation aims to create a festive atmosphere to celebrate these five years with all participants and attendees.

This year, 18 groups from various regions of Catalonia have entered the competition, reflecting the ongoing interest in the event. The quality, originality, and diversity of the performances have made it particularly challenging for the jury to select the five groups that will compete in the final:

  • Playback Amics de l’Art – Mollet del Vallès
  • PLAYBADU – Canovelles
  • Grup La Il·lusió – Balsareny
  • Vintage Music – Malgrat de Mar
  • Play Music Dansaires – Vilanova i la Geltrú

Tickets for the final will be available from Monday, 12 October, via the platform tiquetsigualada.cat. As in previous editions, the organisation has planned a day for the finalist groups to share more than just their performances. The morning will include a reception and rehearsals, followed by a joint lunch at the Casal de la Gent Gran del Passeig, and in the afternoon, the grand final and awards ceremony will take place.

This year’s event will again be hosted by the well-known showman and presenter Pep Callau, who will bring his energy and rapport with participants and the audience. The jury for this edition will consist of Mireia Montcunill, Albert Gámez, and Cristina Queraltó. In addition to the prizes for the group rankings, there will be an award for the best performance and a special recognition for the oldest participant in the festival.

Apart from its entertainment and artistic aspects, Playbackcat continues to promote the benefits of playback as an activity that encourages active ageing, socialisation, self-esteem, memory, and emotional well-being. The festival collaborates with Dr Enric Duaso Magaña, head of the Geriatrics Unit at the University Hospital of Igualada, to support these initiatives.

Reaching this fifth edition is a significant achievement for the Association of Senior Citizens in Igualada. Over the years, the festival has allowed participants to share the stage, music, creativity, and, most importantly, many hopes and dreams. Therefore, the organisation wishes for this year’s final to be a celebration and a thank you to everyone who has contributed to making Playbackcat possible since its first edition.

The Association expresses its gratitude to the collaborators who have made this new edition possible, including Ateneu Igualadí, Súper Mas, Sumand+, Aigua de Rigat, Comercial Godó, MIPS Fundación, CaixaBank, as well as the Igualada City Council and the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The Association of Senior Citizens in Igualada invites the entire community to fill the Teatre Municipal l’Ateneu and join in this special celebration, as this fifth edition is, above all, a celebration of a journey made together: "5 years sharing passion."
