Bailando con Azcona to honour the legacy of Logroño's screenwriter on the centenary of his birth

The city of Logroño is set to celebrate the centenary of acclaimed screenwriter Rafael Azcona with a special event titled 'Bailando con Azcona'. This tribute aims to honour Azcona's significant contributions to Spanish cinema through a musical journey featuring soundtracks from his most memorable films.

The event will take place on 29 October at 20:00 in the Teatro Bretón de los Herreros, a municipal venue. Mayor Conrado Escobar, alongside Culture Councillor Rosa Fernández and José Ángel Cabezón, the director of the Municipal Band of Music, announced the details of the event during a press conference.

Mayor Escobar expressed the care and dedication involved in organising this tribute, highlighting Azcona's status as one of Spain's most celebrated screenwriters and a beloved figure in Logroño. “This is not just an institutional recognition but a popular one, honouring one of our most universal neighbours,” he stated.

The performance will feature the Municipal Band of Music, conducted by Cabezón, alongside violinist Antonio García Egea and cantaora María Toledo. They will perform well-known compositions from various composers, including Alejandro Amenábar and Augusto Algueró, whose works accompanied Azcona's films.

In addition to the music, the event will showcase dance performances by the Casa de la Danza and the tango group El Firulete, featuring styles such as twist, tango, and fox-trot. The musical programme will include pieces from Azcona's famous films, such as 'El verdugo', 'Belle Epoque', and '¡Ay, Carmela!', with arrangements by César Guerrero, a Grammy Award winner.
