Cactus Teatre presents homage to post-war women in ontinyent

The Echegaray Theatre in Ontinyent is set to host the performance of 'Rogles de cançons i misèria' on 16 October at 20:00. This production by Cactus Teatre aims to recover the everyday stories of women during the post-war period through theatre, music, and traditional songs.

This performance is part of the municipal cultural programme for autumn and will be complemented by a morning show for school audiences, sponsored by the Democratic Memory area of the Provincial Council, coordinated by Vice President Natàlia Enguix.

Àlex Borrell, the Councillor for Culture, emphasised the importance of incorporating shows that not only provide an artistic experience but also bring stories like this to the public. He described the production as a quality work that recovers the experiences of post-war women, conveyed through theatrical interpretation and traditional music, all at an affordable ticket price.

The performance revolves around five scenes linked to different aspects of daily life: the laundry, sewing, cooking, childbirth, and rosary prayers. Through these vignettes, the show portrays the lives of women in a typical village during the post-war era, characterised by domestic work, material hardships, social obligations, and silence, but also by solidarity, neighbourly relationships, and small moments of joy that helped them persevere.

The text and direction are by Paula Llorens and Isabel Martí, who are also part of the cast alongside Raquel Piera. The show features musical advice from Rafel Arnal and song guidance from Pep Gimeno, known as 'Botifarra'.

'Rogles de cançons i misèria', which has received the Verlanga Award for Best Revelation Show, has a ticket price of €6 for the evening session, with tickets available on the Caixa Ontinyent website.

The autumn cultural programme has already seen success with performances such as Ismael Serrano's acoustic guitar and voice concert, the comedy 'El barbero de Picasso' featuring Pepe Viyuela and Antonio Molero, and the performance by the group Capella de Ministrers. Following the Cactus Teatre performance, the agenda will continue with 'Dominare' by the Maduixa Company on 1 November, two shows linked to the International Puppet Show of Vall d'Albaida on 6 November, and 'Postals' by L'Horta Teatre on 27 November. Music will also play a significant role in December with a jazz and cinema concert by Babalú Band, before concluding the programme with a show by Wilbur on 3 January.
