Cambrils commemorates the centenary of Gaudí's death with cultural initiatives

Cambrils is joining the commemoration of the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the renowned Catalan architect, with three cultural initiatives aimed at highlighting his legacy and making his creative universe accessible to various audiences. The programming, organised by the Culture Department of the Cambrils Town Hall, includes a family theatre production, a book presentation, and an exhibition.

Gaudí, the man who spoke with dragons

The puppet show titled Gaudí, el hombre que hablaba con los dragones will be performed at the Cultural Centre on Wednesday, 21 October at 18:30. This engaging performance aims to introduce families to the life and work of the modernist architect in an entertaining way. Through the character of Fredolic, a wrought-iron dragon, and the powerful dragon of Barcelona, young Gaudí learns to observe nature and discovers traditional crafts. This magical journey follows a six-year-old boy as he grows into one of the world's most celebrated architects. The play, suitable for families with children aged two and above, was created by writer and playwright Jordi Folck, directed by Asier Gilabert from Fil de guà, and Humberto M. Balcázar from Bambadaboom theatre.

Between Gaudí and the sky

The second initiative is the presentation of the book Entre Gaudí y el Cielo, scheduled for Tuesday, 17 November at 19:00 at the Josep Salceda i Castells Library. The event will feature contributions from the authors, Xavier Pete and Jordi Pacheco, alongside journalist Marc C. Griso and sculptor Joan Serramià. Published by Albada, the book offers a journalistic and literary account of the 36 hours Pope Leo XIII spent in Barcelona, portraying the Pope, the city, and a significant historical moment.

The secret of Gaudí in the Baix Camp

The final activity in the commemoration is the exhibition El secreto de Gaudí en el Baix Camp, curated by Josep Pedret Rodés. The exhibition will open on Thursday, 3 December at 20:00 in the Espacio El Pati of the Cultural Centre and will be available for viewing until 29 January 2027. This exhibition explores the relationship between Antoni Gaudí and the landscape of Baix Camp, examining how the nature, forms, and materials of the environment can inspire artistic creation. Through this lens, El secreto de Gaudí en el Baix Camp invites visitors to uncover potential connections between the architect and the territory, offering a perspective linked to his work.
