The 'Canarias suena' stand has opened as a hub for the vibrant music scene of the Canary Islands, connecting local creators with international industry professionals at WOMEX 2026, which runs from today until Sunday, 25 October.
WOMEX, the leading professional fair dedicated to world music, is being held at the Plaza de la Música in Gran Canaria. Under the theme 'Music, culture and connections. From the Canary Islands to the world', the stand showcases the diverse sounds of the archipelago through the participation of over 40 artists and groups.
This extensive artistic representation is the result of a call from the Government of the Canary Islands to the local music sector, launched a few weeks ago. Artists from the islands have professional accreditation for WOMEX and will use the 'Canarias suena' space to hold meetings, present materials, conduct interviews, and promote their proposals to attending professionals, ultimately fostering new contacts and opportunities.
These interactions could lead to future contracts, distribution deals, collaborations, or entry into new markets. The participation of Canary Islands artists at WOMEX commenced yesterday, 22 October, with performances by Ale Acosta, Julia Rodríguez, and Marta Bolaños at the inaugural concert.
Today, the 'Canarias suena' stand officially opened, attracting a significant portion of the artistic selection. Activities will continue throughout WOMEX, with increased attendance expected on Friday, 23 October, and Saturday, 24 October, starting at 12:00. Networking events have been organised, inviting professionals from around the world to visit the stand and engage in dialogue with local creators in a relaxed atmosphere, complemented by tastings of local products in collaboration with GMR Canarias.
