The Casa del Traductor in Tarazona has revealed its agenda of activities for the coming months, solidifying its role as a cultural hub for literary translation, creation, and cultural exchange. The programme includes a mix of conferences, meetings, congresses, workshops, and educational activities targeting both specialists and the wider community.
Among the highlights is the conference series titled "Tradition and Humanities: How We Were Seen: Foreign Travellers and Travel in Aragón," scheduled for 15 and 16 October. This initiative will explore how various foreign travellers have depicted Aragón through their narratives over time, focusing on travel literature as a source of knowledge and a means of cultural connection. The series aims to reflect on external perceptions of Aragón and the role of translation in disseminating these views.
The programme will continue in October with the inaugural congress on "Translation and Humanities: Aragón in Travel Literature," which will delve into the relationship between translation, literature, history, and Aragonese culture. Additionally, the Casa del Traductor will participate in the MHISTRAD Congress on missionary translation and various activities related to academic and university spheres.
In November, the Casa del Traductor will take part in the International Congress "Daughters of Proteus: Women Translators in the Hispanic World (16th-20th Centuries)," taking place on 12 and 13 November at the Faculty of Philology of UNED in Madrid. Furthermore, the institution is set to engage in a workshop at the University of Valencia focusing on translation, censorship, and gender diversity, thereby expanding its presence in key discussions and research on literary translation.
Activities already undertaken in 2026 include the translation of publications from the Tarazona and Moncayo region, contributing to the dissemination of local content. The institution also participated in the Book Day celebrations in April and organised the event "Words that Cross Borders" in May, aimed at highlighting translation as a tool for communication and cultural exchange. Another initiative, "Words that Transform," was conducted in collaboration with the Adult Education School, bringing translation and literature to new audiences. Additionally, a conference titled "In Search of the Wild Man: What the Cipotegato Taught Me," presented by translator Ricardo Díaz Pellejero, explored one of the most recognisable elements of Tarazona's culture from a literary and translational perspective.
The programme is further complemented by upcoming initiatives, including a creative meeting and establishment of artistic networks in Aragón, held in Teruel, and the inaugural Paco Uriz Translation Award 2026, dedicated to stories translated from French and English into Spanish. The Casa del Traductor will also participate in the V Seminar on Literary Translation Research Aurora Bernárdez, held on 30 September in Zaragoza, and in activities organised for International Translation Day, including a proposal aimed at educational centres.
Through this programme, the Casa del Traductor in Tarazona continues to fulfil its mission as a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to promoting literary translation and stimulating reflection and research on translation and its processes. Among its objectives is to contribute, through translation, to the international dissemination of literature written in the various official languages of Spain, fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding. The Diputación de Zaragoza supports the activities of the Casa del Traductor as a cultural project that connects the region with national and international spheres, positioning Tarazona and the province of Zaragoza as spaces linked to literary creation, translation, and intercultural dialogue.
