Catalonia launches five services to connect with citizens abroad

The Catalan government has unveiled five new services designed to connect with Catalans living abroad, enhancing their relationship with the Catalan language, culture, and territory. This initiative has been developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Cultural Rights, Creation and Libraries from the Department of Culture, and the Catalan Youth Agency from the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion.

New services for Catalans worldwide

The services provide cultural participation spaces and opportunities to explore Catalonia for Catalans residing outside the country and their organisations.

Virtual reading clubs and thematic communities

The virtual reading clubs offer books for group reading and discussion, while the #Fanàtic communities connect individuals with shared interests in authors, literary genres, or other cultural topics. Each club or community is facilitated by a specialist who proposes content, stimulates conversation, and supports participants. Engagement occurs online via the Tellfy platform, accessible through both the website and mobile app.

Discover Catalonia – XANASCAT

This programme offers educational and cultural stays in hostels within the XANASCAT network, catering to schools, educational centres, Catalan communities, and associations abroad. It includes accommodation, pedagogical activities, cultural visits, and leisure proposals, with services available year-round.

Custom programme – XANASCAT

The custom programme allows groups or families to design stays in accommodations with tailored activities or experiences based on their needs. The XANASCAT central reservation team assists in the design process and prepares a personalised proposal.

Get away to the snow – XANASCAT

The 'Get away to the snow' programme offers winter stays in La Molina, the Vall de Núria, and Planoles, featuring activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding, with options for customisation.

Who can participate?

These services are aimed at:

  • Catalans residing abroad
  • Catalan communities outside Spain
  • Legally established Catalan associations abroad
  • Schools, educational centres, families, and groups linked to the Catalan diaspora

How to access the services

To participate in the virtual reading clubs and #Fanàtic communities, individuals must be registered in the Register of Catalans residing abroad and sign up for the Tellfy application. For XANASCAT programmes, registration in the same register is required, along with the submission of a corresponding application. Once received, the service team will contact interested individuals to develop a proposal tailored to their needs.
