CCOO Murcia marks May Day with cultural events

This year, Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) in the Region of Murcia is planning a unique celebration for May Day. In addition to the traditional demonstrations scheduled for 11 am on Friday, 1 May, in Murcia and Cartagena, the organisation aims to present a fresh perspective on this global workers' day.

The events kick off with a concert by Palomo Palomo, the winner of the CreaMurcia Pop-Rock 2025 award. The artist, known for his blend of raw indie-rock and emotional lo-fi pop, will perform at Cafetería Ítaca on Thursday, 23 April, at 9 pm.

On Saturday, 25 April, journalist and musician Miquel Ramos, who specialises in far-right movements and social issues, will give a talk titled “The rise of the far right: cultural battle, hate speech, and disinformation.” This event will take place at the Centro Cultural Puertas de Castilla at 11:30 am.

On Wednesday, 29 April, CCOO Murcia will host the screening of the documentary “El compromiso: coser y luchar,” featuring Nati Camacho and Cristina Almeida. Produced by the Abogados de Atocha Foundation and directed by Marta Arribas and Álvaro García Capelo, the documentary highlights the struggles of female textile workers in Madrid during the 1970s, set against the backdrop of a brutal terrorist attack by far-right extremists in January 1977. The screening is scheduled for 7 pm at the CCOO Murcia auditorium.

Finally, on Thursday, 30 April, the Edmundo Chacour theatre company, directed by Manuela Sevilla, will present the play “¡Que no, que no pagamos!”, based on texts by Italian author Dario Fo. The performance will begin at 8 pm at the Centro Cultural Puertas de Castilla.
