The Spanish Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Cecilia Pérez Sánchez as the new government delegate in the autonomous community of Asturias. This decision was made during the weekly meeting on 20 October 2026, following a proposal from Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The official appointment will take effect once it is published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (Official State Gazette).
Pérez replaces Adriana Lastra Fernández, who has served as the central government’s representative in Asturias since July 2024.
Biography of Cecilia Pérez
Cecilia Pérez has an extensive political background, having served as the mayor of El Franco since 2003. Prior to this role, she was a councillor from 1995 and held the mayoral position briefly between 1999 and 2000. Additionally, she has been the president of the Asturian Federation of Councils (FACC) since 2019 and served as the vice president of the Territorial Council of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) during the 2019-2023 legislative term.
