The Comunidad de Madrid is set to host its 28th Short Film Week from 16 to 24 October, featuring a diverse programme that includes an official section with 14 competing works. The event will take place in various venues, such as the Palacio de Longoria, the Palacio de Linares, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and the Academy of Cinema.
Supported by the regional government, the competing films will vie for several awards, including the Semana del Corto Prize, which allows the winning title to enter the selection process for the Goya Awards in the best short film category.
This year’s event will also honour actress and director Marta Aledo, alongside a retrospective showcasing historic short films from the Escuela de Cinematografía y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad (ECAM). Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy award-winning works from prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, and Annecy.
Additionally, the festival will feature the fourth edition of the Coproduction Forum, aimed at promoting the Madrid audiovisual sector. The Panorama Fantástico segment will present the six best works of the year in the fantasy and horror genres. Producers from Madrid, selected based on their high scores in the Comunidad de Madrid's production aid programme, will present their companies and projects to international counterparts, including those involved in animation and documentaries, as well as international coproductions.
