The public estate of Raixa, located in the municipality of Bunyola, was the chosen setting for the official team photo of RCD Mallorca, a prominent football club representing the island. The backdrop featured the traditional pedra en sec (dry stone), a significant cultural heritage of the Serra de Tramuntana, recognized internationally.
The event was attended by Pedro Bestard, the second vice president of the Consell de Mallorca and the councilor for Environment, Rural Affairs, and Sports, along with Toni Prats, the island director of Sports. They welcomed the 28 players of the team and their technical staff, led by Alfonso Díaz, the club's CEO.
RCD Mallorca and Raixa: a connection through heritage
The photograph captured the intricate details of the dry stone walls surrounding the public estate, providing a natural and cultural backdrop for the sporting image. Bestard expressed gratitude for the club's choice of Raixa as the location for their official photo, stating, "We appreciate the selection of Raixa by the club as the base for their official photo. This public estate symbolizes the heritage of the island and serves as a space of inspiration and shared identity for the citizens."
He further noted that this possesió (a type of rural estate) was acquired by the Consell de Mallorca in 2002 and is essential for understanding Mallorca's rural customs and the significance of one of its most unique cultural landscapes, the Serra de Tramuntana, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Cultural Asset of Interest (BIC).
Additionally, 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the European Route of Historic Gardens, of which Raixa is a part, celebrated for the beauty of its iconic gardens.
