The Consell de Mallorca is participating in the VI Turespaña Convention, taking place in Zaragoza from 20 to 22 October. The delegation includes Guillem Ginard, the Tourism Councillor, and Tomeu Ferragut, the island's director for Demand and Hospitality.
This event gathers institutional representatives and tourism professionals to discuss the key challenges and opportunities facing Spanish tourist destinations. The Consell's involvement aligns with its strategy to promote a more responsible and sustainable tourism model through knowledge exchange, institutional collaboration, and analysis of emerging trends in the sector.
Guillem Ginard stated, "Mallorca, as a mature destination, requires specialised tourism promotion tailored to the realities and particularities of our island. We cannot apply the same strategies as other destinations because we have a unique identity, heritage, and cultural and scenic offerings." He emphasised the need to focus efforts on the low season and less active months to establish Mallorca as an attractive year-round destination.
"Desseasonalisation is crucial for moving towards a more balanced tourism model that generates economic opportunities beyond the summer months. Therefore, it is essential to target high-value tourists interested in discovering authentic Mallorca: our culture, heritage, traditions, gastronomy, local products, and the island's interior. We want visitors to appreciate what defines us, and for this experience to also invigorate the local economy," Ginard added.
The aim is not merely to attract more visitors but to draw in those who will generate greater value at the right time. This requires presenting a Mallorca that extends beyond sun and beach, showcasing its culture, local products, heritage, authenticity, and experiences linked to its identity.
The convention also serves as an opportunity to learn about Turespaña's work, share experiences with other destinations, and strengthen coordination with the international network of Spanish Tourism Offices. In this context, Ginard and Ferragut will hold professional meetings with Turespaña representatives from Italy, the United States, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates, which are strategic emerging markets for Mallorca.
The goal is to promote the island's values and convey, from the first contact with these markets, a commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism that encourages year-round exploration of Mallorca and contributes to a more balanced distribution of tourism activity throughout the year and across the territory. These interactions will help understand the specifics of each market, explore new collaboration opportunities, and enhance Mallorca's international profile, recognising the importance of tourism as the island's primary economic activity and the need to progress towards a more responsible, sustainable, and balanced model.
