Consell de Mallorca releases three practical guides to boost local commerce and economy

The Consell de Mallorca has published three new guides aimed at providing municipalities with tools and guidance to strengthen and enhance the competitiveness of local commerce. This initiative focuses on economic development, infrastructure modernization, and the promotion of local products, targeting professionals and municipal technicians.

The guides offer insights into various aspects including the digitalization of commerce, marketing strategies, cooperation between retailers and producers, best practices for online and offline promotion, and the integration of local products as a distinguishing feature.

Developed through the Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development and within the framework of the Advisory Council on Products and Commerce of Mallorca (Capicma), the creation of these guides followed a continuous collaborative process involving key stakeholders, with a total of nine meetings since the establishment of Capicma.

During a recent working meeting held at the Department's headquarters, Councillor of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, and the island's Director of Economic Promotion, Product of Mallorca, and Commerce, Álvaro Roca, convened with commerce and economic promotion officials from various municipalities in Mallorca.

Oriol Cesena, a professor at the University of Girona with over 20 years of experience in commercial projects, led the Capicma meetings, which aimed to revitalize local commerce and products across the island's municipalities.

Councillor Amate highlighted the significant work accomplished in recent years in collaboration with municipalities to provide practical tools and instruments that assist in managing, modernizing, and addressing the challenges faced by this strategic sector in Mallorca's economy.

She stated, “We are valuing our municipal markets, local shops, and local products, and these guides serve as practical resources aimed at facilitating municipal actions in these areas.”

Amate further explained that “these best practice guides on local commerce and Mallorca's products are the result of discussions held in working committees and represent a clear commitment to training those responsible for the sector in our municipalities.”

“This technical material is designed to give municipal representatives a broader and more comprehensive view of commerce and local products,” she added.

Objectives of the Guides

The three guides share a common goal: to provide municipalities with practical, applicable, and adaptable tools suited to their diverse territorial realities, helping them to enhance and strengthen various aspects of local commercial and economic activity.

  • Guide to Boost Commerce: Aims to offer municipalities tools and guidance to enhance, strengthen, and make local commerce more competitive, promoting actions that contribute to its dynamism, visibility, and adaptation to new challenges.
  • Guide to Markets: Designed to provide practical tools to strengthen and energize Mallorca's markets, enhancing their visibility, attraction capacity, and role as spaces for commerce, economic activity, and urban life.
  • Guide to Local Products: Aims to equip municipalities with tools to promote and enhance local products, improving their visibility and connection with consumers.

These guides will be available in digital format for technicians and officials of the municipalities.
