This weekend, Elche will host the second round of the National Cadet, Senior, and Para-Karate League, one of the most significant events on the calendar of the Royal Spanish Karate Federation and Associated Disciplines. The city will welcome around 900 athletes from over 180 clubs across Spain, with more than fifty participants hailing from Elche itself.
The competitions will take place at the María Díez-Sara Marín pavilion, featuring events in Kata, Kumite, and Para-karate for both male and female categories. Specifically, on 24 and 25 October, 444 male competitors and nearly 400 female competitors will participate, alongside almost fifty athletes in the Para-karate category.
José Antonio Román, the city’s Sports Councillor, emphasised the municipal government's commitment to promoting sports, particularly karate, which boasts some of the strongest clubs in the province and significant regional impact. He stated that it is essential for the city to honour this sport through the Karate Week, culminating in the National Karate League, which is set to be one of the most important events in this Mediterranean Capital of Sport.
Following this second round, the eight best athletes from each category will be identified to compete in the national final, scheduled for December in Guadalajara. Antonio Moreno, President of the Spanish Karate Federation, highlighted the significance of hosting this national league event in Elche, where the women’s national team will also be present to prepare for the upcoming World Championship in China.
In parallel to the competition, various activities related to karate have been organised throughout the week to engage the local community and showcase the high standard of karate in Elche.
