The Culture Department has established a partnership with five local bookstores in Alicante to enhance the promotion of reading and facilitate book sales during cultural activities. Nayma Beldjilali, the city’s Culture Councillor, stated, “We want to continue supporting our bookstores, and we believe this agreement is a good way for them to be present at the events scheduled at Espacio Séneca and to use this venue for book presentations with authors.”
This collaboration aims to encourage the sale of books at cultural events through a formal agreement, which currently includes five local establishments, with the option for additional bookstores to participate. The commercial activity is restricted to the specific day and time of the event, allowing only the sale of books related to the presentation, as well as works by the same author or on similar themes.
Details of the agreement
The agreement outlines two operational modalities. The first pertains to activities organised by the City Council at Espacio Séneca. A list of participating bookstores will be created in strict alphabetical order, with the Council contacting them in a rotating system. If a bookstore declines its turn, the opportunity will automatically pass to the next one on the list. The designated bookstore will manage the sales point and may assist with promotional materials related to the event.
The second modality applies to events proposed and organised by a bookstore in the city. If a participating bookstore suggests a cultural presentation, providing the author and managing the event, it will have exclusive rights to sell books for that specific occasion, subject to the cultural centre’s approval.
