Estepona celebrates libraries day with a range of activities

The Estepona Town Hall has announced that this Saturday, 24 October, marks Libraries Day, a celebration highlighting the significance of public libraries as centres for culture, knowledge, and reading, as well as their role as spaces for community engagement and learning.

This year's theme, “Without professionals, there are no libraries,” aims to recognise the individuals who ensure that libraries are more than just collections of resources, shelves, and spaces.

To commemorate Libraries Day, a children’s storytelling session titled ‘The guardian of the library’ will take place on Friday, 23 October, at 17:30 in the Elvira Lindo Children’s Library, located within the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre. Admission is free until capacity is reached. Estepona actor Carlos Llovet will lead this interactive event, combining oral storytelling, theatrical performance, and audience participation to engage young readers and stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Additionally, the María Zambrano Room of the Municipal Public Library will host a documentary exhibition showcasing one of the most unique collections in its local bibliographic archive: Topics about Estepona, compiled by researcher Francisco Javier Albertos. This collection serves as a valuable documentary legacy for the city’s historical memory.

At the Contemporary Cultures Library, situated at the Mirador del Carmen, a Literary Workshop titled ‘Literature that saves us: essential readings on solitude, grief, and hope’ will be held on Tuesday, 27 October, at 18:00, led by Casilda Sánchez Varela and Violeta Dávila. Following this, at 20:00, the book ‘Sometimes nobody: a journey to the heart of solitude’ (Editorial Debate) by Casilda Sánchez Varela will be presented. Attendance is free, but prior registration is required at bcc@estepona.es.

As part of its regular programming and to celebrate the second anniversary of this venue, the Town Hall has organised an event on 26 November at 20:00 featuring journalist and writer Manuel Jabois, among other guests, followed by a concert by Al-Blanco. The programming for the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Centre can be found at miradordelcarmen.estepona.es.
