The Polytechnic University of Cartagena has recently delivered a course named 'Extended Reality (XR) in Tourism Education', which saw participation from students and faculty at UPCT, alongside several vocational training centres focused on tourism and business in Cartagena.
This comprehensive training programme, spanning 37 hours of theoretical and practical instruction, aimed to explore the potential of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) to innovate teaching methods, enhance student engagement, and promote more sustainable tourism practices.
The course featured contributions from UPCT professors involved in the European project TourXpeRience, as well as Aquilino Javier Sánchez from the extended reality firm Brande Comunicación, and professionals from the Technological Centre of Furniture (CETEM), who shared their expertise in designing immersive training environments and developing educational technology platforms.
This initiative is part of the broader TourXpeRience project, which comprises a consortium of 21 members and has been developed in collaboration with the Mare Nostrum Campus, the UPCT Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation, and the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Business Sciences.
