Casa das Artes has inaugurated an exhibition titled 'The diffuse and the concrete', featuring thirty works from public and private collections that illustrate the various paths taken by the artist Laxeiro since 1950. This exhibition showcases the expressive resources characteristic of abstraction that Laxeiro employed throughout his career.
'The diffuse and the concrete: An approach to abstraction in Laxeiro's work' will be open to the public from today until 6 December 2026 at the Fundación Laxeiro. The display includes a selection of paintings, drawings, and some prints, providing an overview of the artistic lines in which Laxeiro utilised expressive resources inherent to abstraction—a movement that significantly influenced 20th-century painting but received limited attention from historical avant-garde Galician artists.
The exhibition reflects Laxeiro's sensitivity, which resonates with each era he experienced, this time showcasing a less fanciful approach that moves away from figuration to further expand the painter's creative capacity. Gorka Gómez, the Councillor for Culture, attended the exhibition's opening on Wednesday and affirmed the ongoing collaboration between the City Council and the Fundación Laxeiro to promote cultural initiatives in the city.
