On October 5, 2026, Francisco Díaz, the Councilor for Urbanism, Rehabilitation, and Housing, unveiled the latest edition of the Festival Atmósferas, a cultural and architectural initiative aimed at temporarily transforming the public space of A Coruña through ephemeral installations, conferences, and activities open to the public.
The festival is scheduled from October 7 to 11, coinciding with Architecture Week and connecting with some of its proposals. Led by architect Nuria Prieto, the festival encourages collective reflection on how to perceive and inhabit the city, using ephemeral architecture as a tool to reinterpret familiar places and discover new interpretations of urban spaces.
During the presentation, Francisco Díaz emphasized the commitment of Inés Rey's government to promoting architectural culture and initiatives that foster a closer relationship between citizens and their city. "Atmósferas allows us to view A Coruña from a different perspective and discover that public space is also a place for creativity, experimentation, and collective reflection. It is a festival that invites us to rethink the city and our relationship with it," he stated.
The festival positions architecture as a discipline capable of provoking temporary changes in the perception of the environment. Through art, design, and ephemeral interventions, Atmósferas aims to reveal a different city and open new possibilities for the use and interpretation of public spaces.
The programming will kick off on Wednesday, October 7, with a conference by Rocío Pina from ENORME Studio, followed by the participation of the Sinaldaba studio at the Technical School of Architecture on Thursday. On Friday, October 9, the 'Aulas en la calle' activity, coordinated by Patricia Muñiz, will take place, coinciding with the opening of the festival installations, which will be accessible until Sunday, October 11. Additionally, free guided tours will be organized to familiarize the public with the projects and creative processes behind each intervention.
Among the eight planned installations are proposals located in Plaza Marqués de San Martín, Plaza de San Nicolás, Calle Voluntariado, Plaza de la Galera, Mercado de San Agustín, and the surroundings of Plaza de España. The projects are signed by professionals and collectives such as Sinaldaba, Miguel Leiro, Nuria Prieto, and the NGO Habitamos, along with interventions carried out by students from participating schools in the competition.
The presentation of Atmósferas coincides with the start of the programming for the seventh edition of Architecture Week, which runs from October 5 to 11, focusing on the brutalist architecture of A Coruña. This initiative is supported by the Concello de A Coruña, the Technical School of Architecture of the University of A Coruña, and the Official College of Architects of Galicia. Throughout the week, citizens can participate in exhibitions, conferences, guided tours, urban routes, and workshops centered around the city's architectural heritage. Notable spaces opening their doors to the public include the Oceanographic Institute, the Costa Rica Tower, the Technical School of Architecture, and the University School of Technical Architecture.
