The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has unveiled 'Horizontes Escénicos', an international arts programme designed to bring theatrical and performance arts from around the world to local audiences. This initiative aims to transform the island's stages into a gateway to diverse cultures.
Running throughout the programme, 'Horizontes Escénicos' will feature a variety of theatrical and performance pieces from different countries, offering the local community a chance to experience new perspectives on the arts. The cycle will include theatre, dance, contemporary creation, and other disciplines, promoting cultural diversity and interaction between artists, regions, and audiences.
Rayco León, head of the Culture Department at the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, emphasised the initiative's goal: “With 'Horizontes Escénicos', we want Fuerteventura to be a meeting point for cultures. Audiences can travel without leaving the island, discovering through the performing arts other realities, stories, and ways of viewing the world.”
The programme will take place in various performance spaces across Fuerteventura and will cater to different audiences, combining artistic quality, cultural diversity, and accessibility. In addition to showcasing performances, the cycle aims to foster dialogue and connection around contemporary creation, linking Fuerteventura with artists and companies from around the globe.
Special attention will be given to the performing arts from Africa, leveraging the geographical proximity of the continent to strengthen cultural ties and bring the voices and expressions of African artists to Fuerteventura. Through its performances, 'Horizontes Escénicos' seeks to enhance understanding of the cultural realities of African countries and reinforce Fuerteventura's role as a bridge between continents and a space for cultural exchange.
The first performance in this cycle will be 'Ndjou-Ndjou', presented by Cameroonian choreographer and dancer Ekilibro Noah alongside the Obosso company. This show blends hip-hop with Mbali Etoudi, a traditional dance from Cameroon, exploring the intersection of cultural heritage and contemporary expression. 'Ndjou-Ndjou' is set to take place on 30 October at 20:30 in the Auditorio Insular, with free admission available through prior reservation on the website culturafuerteventura.es.
