The regional minister of Economy and Industry, María Jesús Lorenzana, announced that her department's budget for the upcoming fiscal year will rise to €479.39 million, marking a 5.47% increase compared to the current budget. This increase aims to create more industrial land and enhance opportunities in innovation and the defence sector.
During a presentation in the Galician Parliament, Lorenzana specified that without the Recovery and Resilience Facility (MRR) funds, the budget increase would be approximately 8%. Excluding personnel costs and financial operations, spending is set to grow by 3.93%, from €322.9 million to €335.6 million.
Record budget for industrial land and Galicia Industria 360 programme
In 2027, the Ministry of Economy and Industry will continue to prioritise the creation of business land, aiming to develop nearly 12 million square metres by 2030. The budget for Xestur, the agency responsible for industrial land development, has reached a historic high, increasing by 36% to €45.66 million. Additionally, funding for the Directorate General of Industrial Strategy and Business Land will double from €10 million to €20 million.
The most significant initiative in this area will be the Galicia Industria 360 programme, which aims to provide comprehensive solutions to the needs of the industry, including facilities designed to expedite the establishment of new companies. Furthermore, financial support for municipalities to improve infrastructure in business parks will increase by 61.44%, reaching €4.78 million.
Focus on defence, security, and aerospace
The budget also maintains a commitment to industrial diversification, with key actions outlined in the Strategic Initiative for Security, Defence, and Aerospace (Iesda) for 2027 receiving €19.45 million, a 50% increase. This funding will support technological development, agreements, and company assistance, which will nearly quadruple from €1.93 million in 2026 to €7.25 million. Additionally, €12.13 million will be allocated to strategic technological development initiatives.
Promoting innovation
The Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape) will receive €291.92 million, with a 3.9% increase excluding personnel costs. A significant portion of this growth will be directed towards business financing, which will rise by 11% to over €140 million in financial instruments. A new line of funding from the Just Transition Fund will be launched with €26.4 million to support and stimulate the province of A Coruña.
In addition to financing, investment and competitiveness support will be enhanced with €62 million, including €22.3 million for the Business Attraction line in 2027. The Economic Office of Galicia will have €1.03 million allocated for specialised assistance and activities in Madrid, which was inaugurated this year.
For innovation, Igape's budget will be around €46 million, combining ongoing programmes with new initiatives from the Galician Business Innovation Strategy 2026-2028, aimed at industrialising innovation to promote the manufacturing and marketing of technological products and services in Galicia. The internationalisation sector will also receive €18.57 million.
Energy efficiency and renewable resources
The energy policy will play a crucial role in next year's budget, facilitating efficiency, renewable resource utilisation, and cost reduction in production processes. The Galician Energy Institute (Inega) will be allocated €51.73 million, with €40.54 million dedicated to supporting investments by businesses, entities, and families. Support for self-consumption, renewable thermal energy, and energy efficiency will continue, alongside the Plan Renova o teu Vehículo, which will receive €2.5 million.
In the mining sector, sustainability aid for natural resources will reach nearly €3 million, a 19.54% increase to support business investments. Restoration of former mining sites will receive €1 million from internal funds, an 18.84% increase, along with €157,600 for technical studies and environmental restoration work. The General Subdirectorate of Mining Resources will be strengthened with ten additional staff members to oversee new mining tenders.
Support for wood construction and Lourizán
Finally, the Galician Agency for Forestry Industry (Xera) will receive approximately €33 million, with a 37.38% increase excluding personnel costs. This funding will primarily support the rehabilitation of Lourizán (€6 million), aid for wood construction, and improvements in the processing of forestry products. A new support office for wood construction will be established in collaboration with the Wood CIS and the Arume Foundation, with €120,000 allocated for 2027.
“Attracting investment does not begin the day a company announces its arrival. It starts much earlier: when land is available, when financing is ready, and when the administration responds promptly. This is what these budgets do: prepare Galicia to seize opportunities when they arise,” concluded Lorenzana.
