The Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat and the 40th Mostra del Vi de l’Empordà will be held in Figueres on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October, following their cancellation due to adverse weather conditions. The Rambla will once again host food stalls, wineries, and the Bar à Vins, while the talks and demonstrations that were suspended will be rescheduled at the Museu del Joguet de Catalunya.
The Rambla de Figueres will return to its role as a venue for this gastronomic and enological event, with the activities that were postponed now set to take place at the nearby museum. This decision allows for the continuation of an edition that, during the previous Friday and Saturday morning, received a strong public response and confirmed the success of the new format that combines the Fòrum and the Mostra for the first time.
From 5 pm to 11 pm on the upcoming Friday and Saturday, the Rambla will feature the majority of the food stalls, wineries, and the Bar à Vins, providing the public with an opportunity to reconnect with producers, taste various offerings, and continue exploring the wines of the DO Empordà. The events on 9 and 10 October will thus focus on the fair and gastronomic experience, while the programming of the suspended talks and demonstrations will continue at the Museu del Joguet, located close to the Rambla.
Despite the circumstances, the inaugural joint format has resulted in a very positive assessment. On Friday, the Rambla saw a high turnout throughout the afternoon and evening, with a strong response to the stalls, gastronomic offerings, and wines from the DO Empordà. The atmosphere and attendance remained robust on Saturday morning, featuring demonstration sessions, tastings, and the brunyols de l’Empordà competition, which was won by the Can Berta bakery from Palau-Saverdera.
However, rain began to fall in the early afternoon, leading to mobility restrictions. Following the authorities' guidance, the planned activities for Saturday afternoon were cancelled, and subsequently, the entire Sunday was also called off. The adverse weather did not detract from the positive evaluation of a format that, during the hours it could proceed normally, demonstrated a strong ability to generate atmosphere and activity in the centre of Figueres.
The combination of gastronomy and wine encouraged the public to extend their stay in the Rambla, alternating between the Fòrum activities and discovering producers, food stalls, and wines from the DO Empordà. One of the most positive outcomes has been the coexistence of the Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat and the Mostra del Vi de l’Empordà. This edition aimed not only to coincide the two events on the same dates but also to integrate them into a single experience in the Rambla, combining the gastronomic stage, producers and restaurateurs' stalls, wineries, tastings, and the new Bar à Vins. The initiative was designed to broaden the reach of both events, attract new audiences, and establish Figueres as a meeting point for Empordà's gastronomy and oenology.
