Gerardo Diego Library to reopen on October 13 after renovation

The Gerardo Diego Municipal Public Library, located in the Villa de Vallecas district of Madrid, is set to reopen its doors on Tuesday, October 13, after a comprehensive renovation project that included upgrades to the heating and cooling system, painting, and flooring improvements.

The reopening comes approximately one week ahead of the initially scheduled date, allowing the library to resume all services, including lending, consultation, study areas, internet access, and cultural programming aimed at promoting reading.

The primary goal of this renovation was to enhance the comfort, functionality, and overall appearance of the building. A complete overhaul of the climate control system has been carried out across all four floors of the library. Additionally, painting work has been conducted throughout most of the library, with the exception of two areas: the lending and children's rooms, where renovations would have required the relocation of extensive bibliographic collections and large furniture.

The project also included polishing the flooring throughout the library. The organization of work by floor allowed essential services, such as lending and access to a significant portion of the collection, to remain operational for much of the renovation period. Consequently, the library has been partially open since the start of the renovation on July 21, until a complete closure on August 31 to facilitate the final phase of the work.
