Gijón to host second international synergy congress on breast cancer

The Labour City of Culture will be the venue for a free event on 16 and 17 October, bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, families, and social entities to discuss medical advancements, early detection, and emotional support in the fight against breast cancer.

Gijón to host second international synergy congress on breast cancer

Gijón will host the second International Synergy Congress on 16 and 17 October, themed "Breast Cancer, Civil Society and LIFE." Organised by Synergy Clubs International and the Casa de la Vida Bruno Salvadori, the congress will take place at the Labour City of Culture, aiming to promote information, awareness, and knowledge exchange about a disease that affects thousands of women and families.

The event coincides with the upcoming International Breast Cancer Day, observed on 19 October, and marks the 18th anniversary of the Casa de la Vida Bruno Salvadori, a Gijón-based organisation dedicated to supporting women affected by this illness and their families.

During the two-day event, healthcare professionals, social organisation representatives, patients, and family members will share experiences and knowledge related to prevention, early diagnosis, medical advancements, and the emotional needs of those living with breast cancer. Attendance is free, subject to prior registration and capacity limits, to encourage participation from both those directly affected by the disease and citizens interested in understanding its health and social implications.

Focus on prevention and information

One of the primary aims of the congress is to highlight the importance of having accurate and accessible information about breast cancer. The organisers believe it is crucial for society to understand the possibilities for prevention and early detection, as well as the support resources available for patients and their families.

The programme will also address the emotional and social consequences of the disease, focusing on the roles played by caregivers, family environments, and civil society organisations throughout the various stages of the process. Synergy Clubs International emphasises that disseminating information can help more individuals identify potential warning signs and seek medical advice when necessary. "If just one person, thanks to information shared by a medium, recognises a warning sign, consults in time, or manages to have cancer detected earlier, all this effort will have been worthwhile," the organisation stated.

Activities at Labour City of Culture

The congress will commence on 16 October at 16:00 with participant registration. The official opening is scheduled for 16:30, followed by the first afternoon sessions. The programme will continue on 17 October from 09:30, featuring new activities focused on understanding the disease and sharing experiences among professionals, patients, and civil society representatives.

To conclude the Saturday agenda, a gala dinner will take place at the Hotel Zentral Rey Pelayo in Gijón at 20:30, during which the Corazón Synergy Awards will be presented.

Solidarity event on international breast cancer day

Initiatives linked to the congress will continue on 19 October, coinciding with International Breast Cancer Day. On that day, the Casa de la Vida Bruno Salvadori will organise a solidarity dance parade at the Albéniz Hall in Gijón, starting at 20:00. This activity will involve a donation of five euros and is part of the awareness and support actions promoted by the organisation. Through this programme, the organisers aim to extend the reach of the event beyond professional sessions and strengthen citizen engagement in breast cancer awareness.
