Girona pays tribute to narcís-jordi aragó with a programme of activities from october 2026 to march 2027

The city of Girona will host a series of activities from October 2026 to March 2027 to commemorate the life and work of journalist and writer narcís-jordi aragó, who passed away in 2016. This tribute coincides with the tenth anniversary of his death and the twentieth anniversary of the donation of the Casa Masó to the city by aragó and his wife, mercè huerta, in 2006.

The initiative includes exhibitions, conferences, round tables, book presentations, guided visits, and audiovisual screenings, all aimed at celebrating one of the most significant figures in Catalan journalism during the latter half of the 20th century and reaffirming the relevance of his legacy.

Collaboration and support

This programme is the result of collaboration between the Girona City Council, the College of Journalists of Catalonia - Girona Branch, the Girona Chamber of Commerce, the Fita Foundation, the Valvi Foundation, the Friends of UNESCO in Girona, and the Rafael Masó Foundation, along with the aragó family.

During a presentation of the tribute, Girona's mayor, lluc salellas i vilar, stated, "narcís-jordi aragó is one of the most relevant figures in 20th-century Girona, known for his commitment to the city and his generous civic action. His writings are essential references for understanding Girona, its history, and its identity." He added that this tribute serves to preserve both individual and collective memory and to keep alive the values that define the city.

Quim Ayats i Bartrina, the deputy mayor and councillor for Culture, remarked, "Narcís-jordi aragó is an indispensable figure for understanding Girona's cultural and journalistic history. Through this tribute, we aim to highlight the relevance of his legacy and bring it closer to new generations. The involvement of so many local entities demonstrates that preserving the memory of figures like aragó is also a way to build Girona's cultural future."
