The Gran Teatro in Huelva is set to host a charity gala on 23 October at 20:00, paying tribute to Juan Carlos Díaz, a local producer, composer, and arranger who left a significant mark on music and the Carnaval Colombino. The event, organised by friends and close associates of Díaz, is in collaboration with the Huelva City Council and will feature performances by artists including Arcángel, Manguara, Onuba, Paco Millán, Vicente Redondo ‘El Pecas’, Andares, and the comparsa JC Díaz. Proceeds from ticket sales, priced at €12, will be donated to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
Nacho Molina, the Councillor for Culture and Archaeological Heritage, highlighted during the event's presentation that Juan Carlos Díaz was a person whose “talent, generosity, and passion contributed to enriching the cultural life of Huelva.” He emphasised that recognising individuals like Díaz is essential for the city's identity, stating, “Juan Carlos Díaz is part of the musical and sentimental heritage of Huelva that we have the responsibility to preserve and transmit.” Molina also recalled Díaz's work at the Rever studio, which hosted notable artists such as Arcángel, Argentina, Jeromo Segura, and Pepe el Marismeño, among many others. He noted Díaz's special connection to the Carnaval Colombino, to which he dedicated much of his creativity and enthusiasm, and encouraged the people of Huelva to participate in this event that combines culture, memory, and solidarity.
Tomas Giménez, president of the AECC in Huelva, expressed gratitude for the initiative supporting the association and highlighted Díaz's charitable nature, stating, “The fact that the proceeds will benefit the Spanish Association Against Cancer is further proof that those organising this gala appreciated and knew him, as he was always a generous person.” He urged the community to attend the gala, which promises to be a night of music while contributing to the fight against cancer.
Javier Guisado, the promoter of the show and former president of the Juan Carlos Díaz Carnival Association, explained that the initiative stemmed from a group of friends who shared Díaz's final years and wanted to realise a long-overdue tribute since his passing. “This is a distinctly Huelva gala,” he noted, emphasising that the lineup consists of local artists who not only were friends of Díaz but also played a part in his musical journey. Guisado thanked the City Council for providing the venue and invited the public to enjoy a night that will also feature performances of some of the honouree's own works.
One of the participating artists, Paco Millán, shared that the musicians will take the stage to pay tribute to Juan Carlos Díaz's legacy by performing both his original songs and those linked to his influence. “I am sure it will be a very emotional gala,” he stated, encouraging the people of Huelva to join in a night that will help keep Díaz's memory alive, as he was an artist whose legacy should endure.
This tribute coincides with the tenth anniversary of Juan Carlos Díaz's passing and aims to preserve the memory of a key figure in Huelva's music scene, both for his work as a producer, composer, and arranger, as well as for his role in fostering the careers of numerous local artists. Solidarity tickets are now available on the City Council's ticketing website, www.entradas.huelva.es, and at the Gran Teatro box office, open Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 13:00 and 19:00 to 20:00.
