Guadarrama to host mushroom days with excursions and workshops

Guadarrama is set to kick off its Mushroom Days on 24 October, an initiative organised by the local Tourism Department. This event will offer sessions aimed at educating participants about various species of mushrooms and fungi found in the region, alongside excursions led by experts. Some of these excursions will also include cooking workshops, teaching attendees how to make the most of their foraged finds.

The Mushroom Days are designed as an educational and enjoyable experience for all ages, with the primary goal of enhancing knowledge about mycology through hands-on experiences in the natural environment of Guadarrama. Participants will embark on a guided mycological hiking route, learning sustainable and proper mushroom gathering techniques from professional guides.

During the hike, participants will collect a small sample of mushrooms to explore their unique characteristics and features in a subsequent identification workshop. The aim is to understand the ideal habitats for each species, their feeding habits, and life cycles, all while promoting environmental respect and sustainability.

The activities will last approximately five hours and are recommended for families. There will be two mycological excursions on 24 October and 7 November, as well as two sessions that include a cooking workshop on 31 October and 14 November. Each session is priced at €10 per participant, subsidised by the Tourism Department of Guadarrama.

Interested individuals can reserve their spots for the excursions on 24 October and 7 November, as well as for the sessions that include cooking workshops. The Mushroom Days are part of a broader array of activities offered by the Tourism Department throughout the year, which also includes survival and orientation activities, hiking routes, birdwatching, stargazing walks, medicinal plant workshops, full moon nights, Nordic walking, and snowshoeing. All activities are subsidised by the Guadarrama Town Council through the Tourism Department.
