Historical archive in Seville showcases documents on shared history with Ceuta

The regional Minister of Culture, Patricia del Pozo, and the director of the Provincial Historical Archive of Seville, Braulio Vázquez, have inaugurated the exhibition titled 'Ceuta is Spain: Five Centuries of Shared History Between the Two Shores of the Strait' at the archive in Seville. This exhibition, which will remain open until the end of October, brings together seven documents that illustrate the social, political, and economic relationships between Ceuta and Andalusia.

Patricia del Pozo emphasised the significance of this exhibition in light of the recent visit by the Spanish royal family to Ceuta and Melilla, stating that "the cause of Ceuta is also that of Andalusia." The documents on display span a broad chronological range, from a rescue of captives in 1523 to notarial deeds from the 19th century, showcasing the historical ties between the two regions.

Among the documents are accounts of Christian captives, the management of tobacco, and the stories of women who crossed the Strait. The exhibition also highlights how Ceuta has been involved in administration, justice, and notarial activities throughout the centuries. It concludes with 19th-century documents that reflect the institutional relationship between Ceuta and the former Notarial College of Seville.

This exhibition is part of the activities organised by the Ministry of Culture to celebrate National Day.
