Igualada hosts exhibition on over four decades of architecture by pere puig

Igualada is set to host 'Pere Puig, architect: a retrospective', an exhibition dedicated to exploring the life and professional journey of local architect Pere Puig. The exhibition will be available for viewing from 18 September to 18 October at the Exhibition Hall of the Museu de la Pell de Igualada and Comarcal de l’Anoia.

This showcase will feature over four decades of Puig's projects and ideas, offering insight into his unique approach to architecture. The official inauguration will take place on 25 September at 19:00 in the same exhibition hall.

The exhibition is supported by the Ayuntamiento de Igualada (City Council), the Museu de la Pell de Igualada and Comarcal de l’Anoia, and the Central Comarcas Demarcation of the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC). It aims to highlight Pere Puig's contributions to contemporary architecture while also introducing the public to his influences, perspective, and understanding of the profession.

The exhibition features a combination of photographs, plans, renders, models, and an audiovisual presentation that delves into Puig's creative universe. A central part of the display is dedicated to a selection of his most representative works, explained through panels containing graphic documentation and project information. Among the projects showcased are significant works closely linked to Igualada and the Anoia region, such as the rehabilitation of Cal Granotes, the Fátima Civic Centre, the Fátima Bridge, the Anoia Motor Campus, and the Mont-Àgora cultural centre, alongside various residential and public projects across the country.

Pere Puig was born in Igualada in 1955 and showed a clear passion for architecture from a young age, influenced by his father's love for drawing. He decided to pursue this profession at the age of eleven. Between 1974 and 1981, he studied at the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), during a period marked by the Modern Movement and the influence of architects such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Louis Kahn.

In 1984, he opened his own office in Igualada, embarking on a career that has included private housing, public works, facilities, rehabilitation, and heritage interventions. In the 1990s, he began participating in public competitions and served as a Projects professor at ETSAB from 1994 to 2000. His work has received recognition in various editions of the FAD Awards and at international events such as the World Architecture Festival in Berlin and the WAN Awards in London.

Throughout his career, Puig has advocated for architecture as a process of continuous learning, enriched by disciplines such as art, philosophy, anthropology, the environment, technology, music, and cinema. The exhibition coincides with the closure of his professional office after more than four decades of activity, due to a neurodegenerative illness that progressively limits his mobility.

The exhibition is curated by Roger Velázquez, with artistic direction by Ramon Enrich. Texts are provided by Maria Enrich and Marina Llansana, the audiovisual component is created by Marc Vila, and the documentation is managed by Glòria Ferré. The exhibition is supported by the Ayuntamiento de Igualada and the College of Architects of Catalonia.
