On October 7, 2026, Laureano León, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, stated that the Extremadura Film Residence serves as a strategic tool to enhance audiovisual creation and project the region's identity through cinema. During the presentation of the IV Extremadura Film Residence in Mérida, León remarked, "this residence is much more than a training program; it is a strategic cultural investment for Extremadura."
He added that creators "take a part of our land, our experiences, and our identity, and those experiences end up being reflected in the films they develop." Thus, he continued, "Extremadura not only hosts cinema but also becomes part of it."
León emphasized that the residence attracts talent, generates opportunities for audiovisual creators, and transforms Extremadura into a space for meeting, inspiration, and the development of film projects.
Record Participation in Film Residence
Juan Antonio Moreno Amador, the director of the Extremadura Film Residence, announced that fifteen film projects will be supported over the next nine months, selected from 120 proposals received. Among these, 100 were fiction projects, 16 were documentaries, and 4 were animation works, marking a record participation since the program's inception.
Of the fifteen selected proposals, five are from Extremadura, five from other Spanish autonomous communities, and five from Ibero-American countries, reinforcing the national and international scope of this initiative, which has become a reference within Spanish-language film laboratories.
