Vigo has allocated €3.2 million for the repair of walls across the city to ensure safety. The Xunta de Gobierno has awarded a contract worth €359,000 for the repair of the retaining wall of the Roman villa of Toralla, which is expected to take four months to complete.
The mayor explained that this project was expedited due to the urgent need to ensure safety in this heritage site. He stated, “Safety is the top priority in this city.”
The mayor highlighted that this intervention is part of a municipal program for the repair and consolidation of walls, following a particularly harsh winter that caused damage in various parts of the city. Previous repairs have been carried out in locations such as Vista do Mar, rúa Cantabria, Traída das Augas, Camiño Igrexa, Baixada á Praia, Santa Baia, the Relfas football field, Navia park, and the Igrexa Valadares school.
The mayor also announced that work on the wall of the Valle-Inclán school is nearing completion, with additional repairs planned for Camiño Galindra, the Vila Laura nursery, and the Mestres Goldar school. He emphasized the importance of these interventions in preventing risks and ensuring the safety of citizens.
In this context, he criticized the Xunta de Galicia for not taking responsibility for actions he believes fall under their jurisdiction, particularly concerning educational institutions. He cited the example of the repair of the wall at the Igrexa Valadares school, which had stability issues and whose restoration was undertaken by the Concello.
