The Movimiento por la Dignidad y la Ciudadanía (MDyC) is set to propose a Recovery and Revitalisation Plan for Tourism in Ceuta, targeting the year 2027, during the next session of the Assembly. This initiative aims to address the decline in tourism activity reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE) following the events of 30 and 31 July.
The proposal includes a preliminary assessment of the current state of the tourism sector in Ceuta, identifying its weaknesses, threats, strengths, and opportunities in light of recent developments. The localist party aims to enhance the promotion of Ceuta as a tourist destination through measures such as extending and ensuring the continuation of discounts for non-residents on maritime and air transport between Ceuta and the mainland. Additionally, they plan to establish agreements with local travel agencies to promote Ceuta as a tourist destination leading up to 2027.
Furthermore, the MDyC emphasises the need to promote and support local commerce, particularly in areas that require greater administrative assistance, such as the San José-Hadú neighbourhood. The party also reminds that their previous proposal to seek recognition for Ceuta as a UNESCO World Heritage site, aimed at highlighting the city's historical and cultural legacy, remains pending.
Finally, the MDyC criticises the local government for the delayed response to their 2025 proposal for a Director Plan for Tourism, which aimed to establish a solid and planned tourism policy to make Ceuta a competitive and attractive destination. They hope that the Recovery and Revitalisation Plan for Tourism in Ceuta for 2027 will receive support from the democratic parties in the Assembly.
