Miranda de Ebro launches interactive tour to explore its history

Miranda de Ebro has unveiled a new digital tool designed to help both locals and visitors explore the city's historical and cultural landmarks independently. The Interactive Tour of Miranda de Ebro, accessible at www.visitacastillayleon.es/miranda-de-ebro, transforms a mobile phone into a comprehensive tourist guide that accompanies users throughout their journey.

The tour is designed to allow users to discover Miranda at their own pace, without fixed schedules. Through an interactive map, participants can view their current location, find nearby tourist attractions, and navigate between points while accessing historical and tourist information about each site.

The tour includes explanatory content, audio guides, photo galleries, geolocation, links of interest, and directions to each location, providing a practical experience for first-time visitors and offering locals a new way to learn about their city's history and heritage.

The content highlights the evolution of Miranda de Ebro from its origins and its historical role as a meeting point between different territories. Key features such as the Ebro River, the neighborhoods of Aquende and Allende, and the iconic Carlos III Bridge serve as focal points for exploring a city whose development has been shaped by its strategic location between Castilla, the Basque Country, and La Rioja.

Among the sites included are significant landmarks in the Historic Center, such as Plaza de España, the Town Hall, Casa de las Cadenas, Casa de los Urbina, the Castle, Jardín de Miranda, the Church of Santa María de Altamira, Teatro Apolo, the former Church of San Juan, Carlos III Bridge, and the Church of the Holy Spirit.

The tour also expands its focus beyond traditional monumental sites, incorporating the impact of the railway's arrival and the subsequent industrial development of Miranda through locations such as the train station, a steam locomotive, and the Los Ángeles neighborhood. It also addresses crucial chapters in local history, including the Interpretation Center of the Concentration Camp and the important archaeological heritage represented by the Arce-Mirapérez site, associated with the ancient settlement of Deóbriga.

The interactive visit is not limited to the urban core; it also includes locations that showcase the municipality's natural, cultural, and religious heritage, such as the hill of La Picota, the San Juan del Monte area, the Camino de Santiago via Bayona, the hermitage of La Nave, the Monastery of Herrera, and the Monastery of San Miguel del Monte. This approach provides a comprehensive view of Miranda de Ebro and highlights the diversity of tourist and heritage resources the municipality has to offer.

The project enhances the digital promotion of the city and enables its heritage to be discovered in an autonomous, attractive, and accessible manner throughout the year. Visitors can access this new tool at both the Tourist Office and the Interpretation Center of Ancient Miranda (CIMA) by scanning a QR code.

According to Carlos Díez Javiz, the city's Tourism Councillor, “this tool is part of our commitment to utilizing new technologies to promote the city's attractions in a modern and efficient way, facilitating visits to the main tourist and heritage resources.” He noted that this summer, the interactive game Marco Topo was launched, aimed at family tourism and has received positive feedback, along with the earlier introduction of Free Plan Tour, a digital tool for creating personalized city plans.

The Interactive Tour allows users to explore Miranda independently using their mobile phones, providing both written and spoken information about 30 tourist points in the city, along with several photographs of each site. “It is a very comprehensive tool, and we believe it will be very useful and well-received by our visitors,” emphasized the councillor.

The Interactive Tour of Miranda de Ebro was developed by the company Terranostrum as part of Visitacastillayleon.es, a platform specializing in the digitalization and dissemination of the region's tourist and heritage resources.
