Molina de Segura is set to celebrate its patron saint festivities from 2 to 18 September 2023, featuring a new fairground location. The programme includes more than 180 events, such as the 18th edition of the B SIDE Festival, performances by renowned artists including Luz Casal, Estrella Morente, Miky, Israel Fernández, Jeanette, and Juan Bau, as well as children's musicals, monologues, zarzuela, folklore, and various sports and religious activities.
The festivities will kick off on 2 September with the traditional parade of the Tío de la Chirimaita. A notable change this year is the relocation of the fairground to the Molina Centro car park. On Thursday, 27 July, the festive programme and poster were officially presented at Restaurante Signatura, attended by the mayor of Molina de Segura, José Ángel Alfonso, the councillor for festivities, Juan de Dios García, and the councillor for sport and health, Carlos Perelló.
The celebrations will continue until Monday, 18 September, a public holiday in the town, which will see the return of the town's patron saint, the Virgen de la Consolación, to her hermitage. Parallel activities will begin on 1 September and run until 1 October, offering a diverse programme of over 180 festive, sporting, and religious events.
Mayor José Ángel Alfonso announced a new activity for this year: a fireworks display from the balcony of the Town Hall, accompanied by the male and female children's teams of Unión Molinense. This year's poster is dedicated to the women of Molina, featuring four photographs of huertanas, representing the women of the municipality.
Councillor García detailed the programme and expressed gratitude to the sponsors who enabled the creation of this comprehensive schedule, especially given the challenging economic situation faced by the local government. Councillor Perelló outlined the sporting events planned during the patron saint festivities, encouraging residents and visitors to participate in the activities.
Music will once again be a major highlight of the festivities, with concerts primarily taking place in the Plaza de España, which are free to access, as well as at the Molina de Segura Events Venue (REMO) and the Municipal Auditorium Tomás Fernández Gil. Artists such as Luz Casal, Estrella Morente, Miky, Israel Fernández, Jeanette, and Juan Bau will perform, alongside musicals and tribute acts to famous groups and artists.
The REMO will host the 18th edition of the B SIDE Festival on 15 and 16 September, featuring performances from indie bands such as Lori Meyers, Arde Bogotá, and Hinds. The detailed programme is as follows:
