Molina de Segura's library network celebrates cultural week from 19 to 31 October

The library network in Molina de Segura is set to celebrate its cultural week from 19 to 31 October, coinciding with International Library Day on 24 October. This year's theme is #WithoutProfessionalsThereAreNoLibraries, highlighting the essential role of library staff.

The programme was unveiled at a press conference by María Hernández, the Councillor for Culture; Antonio Martínez, the Councillor for Citizen Participation; Ángel Verdú, the coordinator of the Library Network; and writer and journalist Lola Gracia.

As part of the celebrations, a twinning event will take place in Cehegín between the Municipal Library Network of Molina de Segura and the Municipal Library of Cehegín, echoing a similar event held last year with the Municipal Library of Torre Pacheco.

The Day of Women Writers will be celebrated on the nearest Monday to 15 October, which this year falls on 19 October. The focus will be on younger female writers born in the 2000s, alongside more established authors with extensive bibliographies.

The General Directorate of Books, Comics, and Reading is promoting the celebration of Library Day on 24 October 2026, with the slogan 'Suitable for all audiences'. The commemorative poster, designed by illustrator Carmen Segovia, is available in several languages of Spain.

During the cultural week, libraries such as the Salvador García Aguilar Library and the Mercedes Mendoza Library will welcome students from local schools who have requested visits. A variety of contests and activities will take place, including workshops, storytelling sessions, and book presentations.
