Molina de Segura to host ix feria de las tradiciones celebrating florists and horticulturists

Molina de Segura is set to celebrate the ix feria de las tradiciones from 23 to 25 October, focusing this year on the floristry and horticulture sectors. The event will take place in the Barrio del Castillo and surrounding areas, including the Plaza de la Región Murciana and the Plaza de la Constitución. The mayor, José Ángel Alfonso, presented the event during a press conference, alongside the councillor for handicrafts, Pilar Galindo, and one of the founding artisans, José Nicolás.

Organised by the municipality's handicrafts department, the feria aims to highlight the cultural roots of Molina de Segura, showcasing traditional crafts, gastronomy, and popular customs through a participative programme suitable for all ages. Throughout the weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to explore various artisanal techniques, traditional products, and historical crafts that are integral to the town's cultural heritage.

Mayor Alfonso emphasised the importance of the feria, stating, "Every corner of our feria de las tradiciones carries the mark of those tenacious generations who taught us that cities are built on values such as solidarity, honesty, perseverance, and a love for well-done work."

One of the highlights of the feria will be the renacentista market, a space filled with history and charm where craftsmanship and flavours take centre stage. Attendees can browse stalls featuring unique jewellery made from steel, resin, minerals, and natural stones, decorative items, esparto and crochet creations, as well as a variety of food options including pastries, cheeses, and a welcoming tea house.

The educational aspect of the feria will be particularly emphasised on the morning of 23 October, when local primary school students will engage with traditions and ancient crafts through interactive workshops led by a character named Alana, who is curious about the history and legends of Molina de Segura.

On the evening of the same day, attendees can enjoy a musical performance titled "Cántame un Pasodoble… Español," featuring the Lírica de Zarzuela company from Madrid and renowned murcian singer Verónica Lozano, who gained fame as the winner of the television programme "A tu vera" in 2013. The performance will also include demonstrations from students of the Escuela Amigos del Toreo de Alcantarilla.

Saturday, 24 October, will see the streets come alive with music from the Charanga Los Frescos, who will accompany the Federación de Moros y Cristianos to the feria, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

The final day, 25 October, will feature the inaugural encuentro de cuadrillas, celebrating traditional music and cultural heritage with performances from four local groups. The event will culminate in the preparation of a massive paella for 500 people in the Plaza de la Constitución, where attendees can participate by purchasing a ticket for a minimum of 5 euros at any of the participating stalls.

The ix feria de las tradiciones promises to be a vibrant celebration of craftsmanship, culture, tradition, music, and community participation, making it an ideal family outing and an opportunity to appreciate and preserve the cultural heritage of Molina de Segura. The handicrafts department encourages everyone to join in this exciting event and enjoy a weekend dedicated to traditional crafts and popular culture.
