Olot to host girosona swimming circuit - grand prix diputación de girona 2026-2027

Olot will kick off the girosona swimming circuit - grand prix diputación de girona 2026-2027 on 7 November. This sixteenth edition will also take place in Banyoles, Vic, Lloret de Mar, and Girona, concluding on 6 June at the GEiEG facilities.

Last season, nearly 2,000 swimmers participated, representing over thirty clubs from outside the Girona region. The details of the upcoming circuit were presented at an event in the Ferran Agulló room of the diputación, attended by sports deputy Jordi Masquef, president of the Catalan Swimming Federation Enric Bertran, and technical director Isidre Balcells.

The circuit will maintain the same five events as in previous editions, starting with the 32nd Raül Ramos Trophy in Olot. In 2027, the schedule includes the 40th Josep Tresserras Trophy at the Banyoles Swimming Club on 6 February, the 49th Mercat del Ram Trophy at the Vic Swimming Club on 10 April, the 18th Lloret - Memorial Sensei Fusano Trophy at the Lloret de Mar Swimming Club on 8 May, and concluding with the 26th Girona City Trophy - Memorial Lluís Masberenguer at GEiEG on 6 June.

The competition is experiencing significant growth, especially over the past two years. In the previous edition (2025-2026), there were 1,987 swimmers, with a balanced participation of men and women. In addition to clubs from the Girona and Osona regions, there is an increasing presence of clubs from other parts of Catalonia. Last year, 33 clubs participated, including two from outside the region: Club Natación Santa Olaya from Gijón and Club Natación Voltor Balear from Palma.

Today's event also saw the attendance of Olga Valls, territorial delegate of Girosona for the Catalan Swimming Federation and president of the Lloret Swimming Club; Gemma Soy, president of the Olot Swimming Club; Francesc Cayuela, president of GEiEG; and Jordi Casanovas, president of the Banyoles Swimming Club, along with coaches and swimmers from the participating clubs.

The girosona swimming circuit is open to swimmers born in 2013 and earlier, with an accredited licence for the 2026-2027 season. For the fourth consecutive year, an electronic timing system will be used, similar to those employed in major national and Catalan events, such as the Spanish Championship and the Catalan Circuit.

Technical director Isidre Balcells, who has taken over from Joan Parra, emphasised, "The circuit is deeply rooted in our territory, and our task is to nurture it to ensure it continues to thrive." In addition to the five clubs hosting the trophies, eleven others will act as collaborators: nine from the Girona region and two from Osona.

In the overall classification, only clubs participating in the girosona circuit, including the five organisers and eleven collaborators, will compete. To qualify for the overall title, a swimmer must participate in at least one event from four of the five trophies. If they compete in all, only their four best scores will be counted. The club classification will sum points from all events, both individual and relay, across the five trophies. The Banyoles Swimming Club is the reigning champion after breaking the three-year dominance of the Vic Swimming Club.
