Ordino to host the opening of the 12th season of Andorra Lírica with 'tangos líricos'

Ordino will host the opening of the 12th season of Andorra Lírica with the performance 'Tangos Lírics'. This event, which combines tango, song, milonga, and opera with music, singing, and dance, is scheduled for 17 October at the National Auditorium of Andorra.

The presentation of 'Tangos Lírics: una vida en una noche' took place on 29 September and was led by Mònica Armengol, the Cultural Councillor of the Comú d’Ordino, alongside Jonaina Salvador, the artistic director of Andorra Lírica. Representatives from various collaborating institutions, including the Comú of Sant Julià de Lòria, the Comú of la Massana, and the Andorran government, also attended the event.

According to Armengol, this presentation continues the collaboration initiated last year with Andorra Lírica as part of the Nits Obertes cycle, reinforcing the commitment to bring high-quality lyrical and musical proposals to the region. She emphasised the importance of cooperation among different institutions in the country to create a diverse, high-quality, and accessible cultural programme for all citizens.

'Tangos Lírics: una vida en una noche' will feature a journey through tango, song, milonga, and opera, showcasing a production that integrates music, singing, and dance. The inaugural performance will include a quintet of instrumentalists trained in classical music and specialised in tango, along with dancers Anabel Gutiérrez Otero and Imanol Muñoz. The repertoire will feature tangos from composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel, alongside lyrical pieces like 'Tango de la Menegilda' from La Gran Vía and 'Yo soy María' from María de Buenos Aires. Audiences can also expect to hear pieces like 'Youkali' and 'La canción al árbol del olvido', creating a dialogue between classical and popular music through tango.

The new season of Andorra Lírica will include a variety of formats and genres, running until May with activities in Ordino, Sant Julià de Lòria, and la Massana. Following the inaugural performance, a roundtable discussion on the role of voice in prenatal and postnatal development will take place on 6 November at Rocafort. This event is part of the 'Bressol Líric' project, which will continue on 7 November with a concert at the Auditorio Claror in Sant Julià de Lòria. 'Bressol Líric' will explore lullabies from various cultures and languages, featuring repertoire in Catalan, Spanish, French, English, and German, as well as pieces from different Latin American cultures, performed by Jonaina Salvador, Guillem Forné, and Xavier Tomàs, accompanied by Kic Barroc, Efrem Roca, and Daniel Forcada.

The programme will also include the traditional Christmas concert on 18 December at the Auditorio de las Fontetes in la Massana, titled 'Noche de ópera y villancicos', which will blend operatic repertoire with Christmas carols. On 24 December, Ordino will again be the venue for the season with the traditional 'Canto de la Sibila' at the church of Ordino. In March, the season will return to the Auditorio Claror with 'Orphée aux enfers' by Jacques Offenbach, in collaboration with the French Embassy, reviving the grand spectacle format with the participation of singers, dancers, musicians, and actors. The 12th season will conclude on 8 May with 'El as de la engaño', a newly created zarzuela aimed at promoting contemporary music within the lyrical programme, featuring music by composers Alejandro López Román and David Sanz, based on texts by Jacinto Benavente and Esteve Soler.
