On October 9, 2026, Gonzalo Castro, the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, participated in the presentation of the 18th season of the Orquesta Gaos at the Teatro Colón. This season will combine significant works from the classical repertoire with educational proposals and initiatives aimed at supporting new generations of performers.
The A Coruña City Council continues its collaboration with the orchestra, reaffirming the municipal government's support for stable musical programming and projects that contribute to the cultural dynamism of the city.
New Features in the Upcoming Season
A key highlight of this season will be the introduction of narrated concerts, which will serve as the backbone of the orchestra's programming. Pianist and educator Andrea Vilar will guide the audience through the works, providing historical context, interpretive insights, and connections to literature, film, and other artistic disciplines.
Major Concerts at Teatro Colón
The season's programming includes several performances in A Coruña, prominently at the Teatro Colón. Among these is 'New Performers,' scheduled for February 28, 2027, featuring winners of the first Orquesta Gaos competition for new soloists.
Another significant moment will occur on April 17, 18, 24, and 25, with the Galician tour of Beethoven's 'Ninth Symphony,' coinciding with the bicentennial of the German composer's death. The concert at Teatro Colón will take place on April 18, featuring the Orquesta Gaos, Coro Gaos, and soloists Ruth Terán, Julia Merino, Pancho Corujo, and Borja Quiza.
The season will conclude in June with 'Dialogues with Abe Rábade,' a meeting between the orchestra and renowned Galician pianist Abe Rábade, exploring repertoires inspired by American music and other genres typically outside the symphonic realm. This concert is set for June 27 at the Teatro Colón.
Commitment to Training and New Talent
Another notable initiative is the establishment of the I Orquesta Gaos Competition for new soloists, aimed at performers up to 18 years old. The final phase will take place in A Coruña on November 28, allowing winners to perform as soloists with the orchestra and make a professional recording.
Castro emphasized that this initiative "strengthens one of the great strengths of the Orquesta Gaos, which is its commitment to training and promoting emerging musical talent from Galicia." Founded in 2009, the Orquesta Gaos has conducted over a hundred concerts both within and outside Galicia, attracting around 20,000 spectators each season. The orchestra also maintains a vigorous program of musical training and outreach, collaborating with artists from various styles and disciplines.
