More than a thousand children and young people have participated in sports activities organized by the Piélagos Town Hall during the summer months of July and August. The Councilor for Sports and Youth, Borja López Alonso, noted that the municipality offered eight courses, including Paddle Surf, Canoeing, Surfing, Tennis, Bodyboarding, Climbing, Paddle Tennis, and Swimming, along with five sports camps focused on Football, Equestrianism, Basketball, Handball, and Karate. All activities were conducted by qualified instructors.
“The statement that Piélagos lives sports is not just a catchphrase or a marketing slogan,” López Alonso emphasized, reiterating the local government's commitment to promoting regular physical activity, even during the summer months. He explained that, alongside the six municipal sports schools running from March to August, the town offers a wide range of summer activities for its younger residents.
López Alonso stressed that both the biweekly courses and the sports camps aim not only to provide children and young people with healthy leisure options but also to give them the chance to try different sports than those they usually practice. “Many of the summer activities help spark participants' interest in other sports, while also serving as an effective tool to attract future students to the municipal sports schools in Piélagos,” he added.
