The governing council of the O.A.M. Palau de la Música in Valencia has approved a budget for the 2027 financial year amounting to €24,482,239.25. This budget reflects the growth of the institution and particularly strengthens resources allocated to personnel, the operation of the Palau, the Valencia Orchestra, and the development of its artistic programming.
A notable aspect of the 2027 budget is the increase in the contribution from the Valencia City Council. The current municipal transfer reaches €20,150,725.25, supplemented by an additional €230,000 earmarked for investment, bringing the total municipal contribution to €20,380,725.25. This figure represents an increase of €2,918,446.48 compared to the initial municipal contribution for 2026, which was €17,462,278.77, marking a 16.71% rise. When considering only the current transfer, the growth is €2,688,446.48, or 15.39%.
This increase underscores the Valencia City Council's commitment to the Palau de la Música, enabling the institution to enter the new financial year with a more robust and appropriate funding structure to meet its operational, personnel, and programming needs.
Significant growth in personnel expenses
Particularly noteworthy is the growth in personnel expenses, which in 2027 will reach €16,905,114.21, up from €13,158,009.64 in 2026. This increase of €3,747,104.57 represents a 28.48% rise. Such a substantial increase allows for a strengthened personnel structure, adequately addressing the needs of the Valencia Orchestra and providing resources for additional support, while advancing towards a budget more aligned with the actual needs of the staff.
The 2027 budget also aims to ensure that the Palau has the necessary resources from the beginning of the financial year to support its regular activities and improve budget planning. It guarantees the resources needed to continue developing the artistic programming of the Palau and the Valencia Orchestra, maintaining the ambition and quality of the musical offerings while addressing seasonal commitments with greater economic stability.
Improved revenue structure
The budget incorporates enhancements to the institution's revenue structure. A change in the remuneration system for certain concerts in the 2026-2027 season will replace the previous model, which included a percentage of ticket sales, with a fully fixed remuneration. This adjustment will ensure that all revenues from ticket sales for these concerts will go directly to the O.A.M. Palau de la Música.
Additionally, an increase in revenue from the rental and use of the Palau's spaces is anticipated, linked to updates in the pricing regulatory framework and a better alignment of rates with the value and characteristics of its facilities.
Vicente Llimerá, the managing director of the O.A.M. Palau de la Música, stated, “These accounts allow the Palau to face 2027 with stronger financing and greater planning capacity. The increase in municipal contribution, close to three million euros compared to the initial contribution of 2026, demonstrates the City Council's commitment to the Palau de la Música and the Valencia Orchestra.”
Llimerá particularly emphasised the growth in the personnel budget: “An increase of 28.48% in Chapter 1 is especially important. It allows us to have a budget much more aligned with the actual needs of the institution and the Valencia Orchestra, continuing to consolidate the professional structure that enables all our activities.”
“The goal is to have a realistic budget that allows us to address both structural needs and artistic activities from the beginning of the financial year. A larger initial allocation also means more stability, greater planning capacity, and more efficient budget management,” he added.
With a budget of €24.48 million, a municipal contribution exceeding €20.38 million, and a 28.48% increase in personnel expenses, the O.A.M. Palau de la Música is set to face 2027 with a strengthened economic structure to continue developing its programming, consolidating the activities of the Valencia Orchestra, and advancing Valencia's position as a key musical city.
