Reus city council unveils €22.2 million investment plan for 2027

The Reus city council has announced its 2027 Investment Plan, which will be put to a vote in the upcoming plenary session on Friday. The plan, amounting to €22.2 million, prioritises housing policies, the maintenance and improvement of public spaces, sustainable mobility enhancements, and the development of a new model for citizen services and economic promotion through a strategic data analysis project.

This budget represents an increase of €2.7 million compared to the 2026 investment plan and is the third highest allocation in the last 15 years, surpassed only by the budgets for 2024 and 2025, both within the current term. Of the total amount, €12.7 million will be allocated to the city council, while €9.5 million will go to autonomous bodies and municipal companies.

Investments in public infrastructure

Public infrastructure remains a key municipal priority, with an investment of €3.2 million planned. This includes €615,000 for road resurfacing, €475,000 for public space maintenance, €400,000 for the redevelopment of Torres d'El Pinar, and €200,000 for the resurfacing of industrial estates. Additionally, €200,000 is earmarked for tree planting, €200,000 for improving school surroundings, and €30,000 for dissuasive parking facilities.

Increased funding for housing

The housing sector is another focus of the Investment Plan, with €2.34 million allocated. This funding will support the purchase of homes for affordable rental at a cost of €300,000, the demolition of the Pich Aguilera building to facilitate the construction of 190 new affordable homes at €536,910, €500,000 for energy rehabilitation of homes, and €1 million for a new subsidy line for elevator installations under the Reus Sud Neighbourhood Plan.

Enhancements to municipal facilities

The city council plans to invest €4.5 million in municipal buildings and facilities to improve public services. Notable projects include a €1 million allocation for the Riera City Lab, a new facility for citizen engagement and participation located beneath the new affordable housing in Riera, above the new municipal parking.

Digital transformation initiatives

In the realm of digital administration, the plan allocates €2.12 million, with €1.18 million dedicated to the Smart Economy Nexus, a €2 million digital innovation project aimed at transforming data into competitiveness and economic development. An additional €504,558 will support the Carrilet project within the Smart City initiative.

Safety and sustainable mobility

For safety measures, €571,697 is allocated, including €91,784 for equipment for the Urban Guard and €479,913 for road safety initiatives. Reus Mobility and Services has a planned investment of €4.51 million for 2027, with the main project being the expansion of the current Carrilet parking facility, which will receive €2.5 million.

Cultural investments and city projection

The cultural sector will receive an investment of €504,679, with €100,000 designated for the Catholic Centre, which will supplement the €4 million currently being spent to transform the space into a new Performing Arts Centre.
