The El Viejo Pancho Municipal Public Library in Ribadeo is set to celebrate Library Day, which falls on 24 October, with a special programme aimed at various age groups. This year's celebration is marked by the theme 'Without professionals, there is no library', emphasising the vital role of public libraries and the professionals who work within them.
Begoña Sanjurjo, the councillor for Culture, highlighted the significance of this celebration as an opportunity to engage the community with the library and showcase its potential as a space for reading, gathering, learning, and participation. She stated, “Library Day is a chance to remind everyone that libraries are much more than places that store books: they are living public services, open to the entire community and essential for access to culture.”
The programme will kick off with meetings of the Reading Club, scheduled for 19 and 21 October, focusing on the work 'The Siege of Troy' by Theodor Kallifatides. These sessions will provide a platform for sharing thoughts and reflections on the reading in a dialogue-rich environment. The club is already at full capacity.
On 24 October at 17:30, the library will host 'Symphony of Tales: We also want to sail', a performance by Tamara Soto, who will provide music, and Inma Soto, who will narrate stories. This event combines music and oral storytelling to engage young audiences, and is aimed at children aged three and above, with free entry.
The programme will continue on 30 October at 17:30 with 'The Secret of the Library', presented by Trémola Teatro. This participatory event is designed for children to enjoy the library, discover its secrets, and explore the space in a fun and engaging way. It is also directed at children aged three and above and will have free entry.
Both 'Symphony of Tales' and 'The Secret of the Library' are co-financed by the Consellería de Cultura as part of the 'Ler Conta Moito' programme, which aims to promote reading and invigorate public libraries in Galicia.
