The municipal delegate for Culture, Rebeca Muñoz, has unveiled a range of activities planned in Ronda to commemorate International Flamenco Day on 16 November. The events will take place throughout the month of November, highlighting the significance of flamenco, which is recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
As in previous years, the initiative aims to bring flamenco to local neighbourhoods. Masterclasses will be conducted by various flamenco academies in the city. The first session is scheduled for 4 November at 17:00 in the San Rafael district, hosted by the ‘Doble Giro’ academy. The following day, another masterclass will take place at the same time in the Padre Jesús neighbourhood. On 11 November, the session will be held in the Elisa Elvira square in San Cristóbal, featuring the academy of Rocío Romero, and the next day, the ‘Flamenkos’ academy led by Miguel Lorca will perform in the San Francisco district.
Additionally, a concert by renowned pianist Chico Pérez is set for 6 November at 21:00 in the Teatro Municipal ‘Vicente Espinel’. Pérez, one of the most influential pianists in the current music scene, will be making his first visit to Ronda. Tickets are available for purchase at www.giglon.com and at the Municipal Culture Delegation in Plaza de la Merced.
The activities will culminate on 16 November at 17:00 in the Alameda del Tajo, featuring a celebratory performance by all participating dance academies. The event aims to encourage not only students from these centres but also the general public to join in the festivities.
