Roxana Niculae has been appointed as the first female regional delegate of CCOO (Comisiones Obreras) in Guadalentín, marking a significant milestone in the union's history. The announcement was made during a press conference by Teresa Fuentes, the general secretary of CCOO Región de Murcia.
Niculae, who previously served as a personnel delegate at a fruit and vegetable company in Águilas, takes over from Ángel Torregrosa, who retired upon reaching retirement age. Fuentes praised Niculae's experience and emphasised the strategic importance of the Guadalentín region, which accounts for over 20% of the union's regional membership and is home to key sectors of the Murcian economy, particularly in agro-food.
In her new role, Niculae expressed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead, noting that the region encompasses several municipalities, including Águilas, Lorca, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras, Aledo, Mazarrón, and Alhama de Murcia.
Among the pressing issues she aims to address are the stagnation of collective agreements, some of which have been pending negotiation for up to seven years, and the restoration of railway connections, particularly the Lorca line, which has been out of service for over five years due to AVE construction works.
This leadership change is part of CCOO's strategy to strengthen its presence in Guadalentín and maintain pressure on critical issues such as collective agreements, wages, housing, railway infrastructure, and public services.
