On October 9, 2026, the Confraría de Pescadores de Sada hosted the launch of 'Fillos do Mar', the first maritime tourism experience developed in the Gulf of Ártabro. The event was attended by Ángeles Vázquez Suárez, the General Director of Fisheries Development.
The gathering included a tour of the port facilities and the local fish market, the presentation of a book detailing the fishing sector's history in the town, and a gastronomic showcase featuring local catches from the estuary.
During her speech, Vázquez Suárez emphasized that this initiative "does not present the sea as a backdrop, but as a space for work, culture, biodiversity, and community." She noted that the project "turns memory into shared knowledge and transforms maritime heritage into an educational and tourist resource."
Furthermore, she highlighted that maritime tourism aims to complement traditional fishing activities rather than replace them, opening new revenue streams and ensuring that added value remains within the region.
Vázquez Suárez also pointed out that 'Fillos do Mar' connects local history with the daily work that keeps the port alive and the future opportunities linked to local products and generational renewal.
This initiative, supported by the Xunta under the Participatory Local Development Strategies (EDLP), is part of the interterritorial cooperation project 'Mar y Rías: Pesca & Turismo'. This project involves eight Local Action Groups of the Fishing Sector (GALP) in Galicia, coordinated by GALP Ría de Pontevedra and in collaboration with GALP Golfo Ártabro Sur.
The project's roadmap includes training plans, technical mentoring for boat adaptation, and outreach activities aimed at building capacities for diversifying into sustainable tourism activities.
