Santa Cruz de Bezana is set to welcome the autumn season with a cultural program designed to engage the community through various artistic expressions. Running through October and November, the agenda features around twenty events aimed at children, families, and adults, with oral storytelling as a central theme.
The program will kick off on Friday at the Biblioteca de Bezana with a double storytelling session led by Roberto Mezquita. The first event, 'Caballitos,' is tailored for infants aged 0 to 24 months and will have two sessions starting at 5:00 PM. Following this, at 6:30 PM, Mezquita will present 'Cuando la palabra es lo primero,' an oral storytelling session for adults.
Javier Ruiz, the councilor for Culture, emphasized the program's variety, stating it aims to “bring culture to residents of all ages and transform our municipal spaces into meeting points for creativity, literature, performing arts, and storytelling.” He noted that the calendar combines established activities with new formats and disciplines, ensuring there is something for everyone.
Upcoming Events
The program continues on October 16 at 6:00 PM with 'Cuentos de la Braña,' where storyteller Alberto Sebastián, accompanied by guitarist Iván Velasco, will narrate tales from Manuel Llano, a prominent figure in Cantabrian literature. These free lectures will take place at 7:00 PM in the Salón de Plenos of the Town Hall, starting on November 6 with Isidoro Fombellida discussing the mountains of Cantabria as described in the Book of Hunting by King Alfonso XI. Subsequent lectures will cover various topics, including the narrative landscapes of the mountains and the pre-Roman bear cult in Cantabria.
Councilor Ruiz highlighted that the program aims not only to provide leisure activities but also to foster curiosity, knowledge, and participation in the region's culture and heritage. He noted, “Culture is also a way to better understand who we are, to share experiences, and to strengthen community spaces.”
The autumn cultural program is organized by the Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Bezana through the Department of Culture, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the Government of Cantabria.
